The Process

Before we get started, we need to understand exactly who we’re trying to target, what they might be interested in, and how they might respond to certain things. It’s unlikely you’ll know exact answers but it’s just to give us a starting point. I will also get the details needed about where you are currently sending traffic, what you have done in the past, and your business goals.

I will create a final proposal detailing a plan, what to expect in terms of cost, traffic, conversions, and advertising spend.

I research your target audience on Facebook including diving into the characteristics and interests of your current audience. Here are just some of the things that I use in campaigns:

  • Demographics, interests and behavior targeting
  • Retargeting audiences – email subscribers, website visitors, engaged fans, video viewers, Instagram engagers, customers
  • Specific audiences – visitors who visit a particular page on your website, people who have visited your site and not purchased (audiences not always large enough to target)
  • Lookalike audiences using some of your best “seed” audiences such as high-value customers, repeat buyers, people who spend a certain amount of time on your site, etc.
  • Location targeting by region and/or zip code as appropriate

I also set up the tracking and tests so that we are tracking each conversion with the Facebook Pixel (if applicable) and that means that we can run only the ads that are leading to the conversions at the lowest costs.

I design a custom plan just for your business that you approve of. You need to feel comfortable. It’s vital that you are happy with the language we’re using, the ad copy and the images we’re using. Sometimes odd combinations and weird, out of the box ideas are the most effective but we’ll never run anything against your wishes. Once approved…

I will get going as soon as possible, adding more campaigns over the coming days. The idea behind this is to get you used to the traffic, the email volume, and the level of inquiries. It’s no good us turning the traffic tap on max when you’re struggling to handle the first lot of inquiries.

I will then design split test campaigns to see what is really converting. I test images, demographics, text, placement, and campaign type. There’s a concept called “ad blindness”. It’s where you see the same ad again and again and as a result, you start to tune it out. It might even help you massively and be exactly what you’re looking for but for whatever reason, your brain ignores it. For that reason, I recycle your ads. The majority of the ad will stay but instead of saying “Get Your Free Report” I might change it to “Free Checklist: Get Yours”. The same idea just visually looks different.

Over time, I’ll start to understand which types of ads, markets, platforms, and targeting is producing customers.  Eventually, I will start shutting down the ads that aren’t effective at producing customers and double down on the ones that are. Oddly enough, sometimes you can have very well-performing ads that just attract tire-kickers. On paper, it looks great but in reality, they don’t pay. On the other hand, you can have a badly performing ad that actually filters people out, leaving only the very interested people clicking. An example of this is called “price filtering”. It’s where you put a price in the ad. Anyone not prepared to spend any money will not bother clicking saving you a click from someone who wasn’t ever going to buy anyway.

When I start the PPC Management process, there will be some ramp-up time to understand your objectives, create a strategy and set up your ads. This can take from a few days to a few weeks so launch time will vary but PPC campaigns start showing positive results within a couple of days. The first few months of running ads require constant attention while there is a lot of learning and optimization to get the best results.  After a few months, the account is in a good place to do ongoing management and optimization. Patience and constant efforts are imperative to achieve the best results.
